URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Buffalo NY 139 PM EST Mon Jan 13 2025 ...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations 1 to 2 feet in the most persistent lake snows, with localized totals of around 3 feet on the Tug Hill Plateau. * WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. The greatest accumulations will focus on the Tug Hill region of southern Jefferson, northern Oswego, and western Lewis counties. * WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Wednesday. The heaviest snowfall rates and greatest impact to travel will be late tonight through Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning and evening commutes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
