URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 140 PM AKDT Mon Oct 21 2024 ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM AKDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snowfall is expected. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Eielson AFB and Salcha, Goldstream Valley and Nenana Hills, Two Rivers, Fairbanks Metro Area and Nenana. * WHEN...Until 4 PM AKDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The transition back to snow should occur around 4 to 6PM today and then remain snow. With temperatures near or below freezing overnight the surfaces will begin to refreeze. The Fairbanks area could see snow squalls on Tuesday. This would bring heavy snow and strong winds. Visibility during these squalls will be significantly reduced. With additional snowfall and strong winds, trees and power lines could be knocked over causing power outages. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel very difficult or impossible.
