URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service New York NY 627 AM EDT Thu Sep 19 2024 ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING... ...COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents. For the Coastal Flood Statement, one half foot inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southeast Suffolk County. * WHEN...For the High Rip Current Risk, through Friday evening. For the Coastal Flood Statement, from Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Brief minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. * RIP CURRENT IMPACTS...Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is the potential for additional rounds of coastal flooding through at least the weekend. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Do not drive through flooded roadways. If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and yell or wave for help. &&
