URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Great Falls MT 802 PM MDT Tue May 7 2024 ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT MDT WEDNESDAY NIGHT... * WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Little Belt and Highwood Mountains. * WHEN...Until midnight MDT Wednesday Night. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible and tire chains may be required for some vehicles. Those in the backcountry should ensure they have appropriate knowledge and gear and may want to consider alternate plans. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Visibility will likely be worst between Sluice Boxes State Park and Monarch Canyon where winds tend to be strongest. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
